David A. Ryan, Sr., a Methodist minister from Florence, today announced his candidacy for State Representative for the 60th District.  Mr. Ryan will run as a Democrat.

Ryan, a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University and Asbury Theological Seminary, is the Pastor at Oakland United Methodist Church in Melbourne, Kentucky.  He and his wife Denise have four children in the Boone County Public Schools.

“I’m in this to win,” said Pastor Ryan.  “I want to represent those who, like me, live paycheck to paycheck.  I’m pro-life and pro-gun.  I’m concerned about jobs.  I believe I can make a difference for my District in the State Legislature.”  Asked if his role as a minister will conflict with his campaign, Pastor Ryan said, “I strongly believe, and the Church teaches, that there is a social aspect to the gospel.  By serving my community in this way, I am furthering my faith.”

“I applaud David’s courage in taking on this race,” said Howard Tankersley, Chair of the Boone County Democratic Executive Committee. “He will undoubtedly have a formidable opponent, but as David gets out and meets the voters, and the voters get to know him and what he stands for, I like his chances.  He is not more of the same.  Pastor Ryan will bring fresh leadership to Frankfort, and his conservative Kentucky values will represent the 60th very well.”
