Call For Special Election In The 37th Senate District

Press Release 12/22/05 – For Immediate Release – 10:30 a.m.

Kentucky Democratic Party – Dale Emmons

FRANKFORT – “Today the Kentucky Supreme Court has put an end to the shenanigans of the Republican bullies now running the State Senate.  They have affirmed our positions that no one is above the constitution and our laws.  They have also made it clear that an Indiana resident cannot serve in the Kentucky State Senate.  With this ruling, we are today calling upon the Governor to call a Special Election for Louisville’s 37th State Senate District as soon as possible.  It is long past time for the people of Jefferson County’s 37th district to once again have their full voice in the State Senate.  Louisville has a right to a full say in the important matters now before this legislature.  It is time to put the Republican political posturing and their silly games behind us”, states Jerry Lundergan, state chairman of the Kentucky Democratic Party.

Lundergan added, “We commend Virginia Woodward for her courage and her tenacity.  For more than a year she has stuck to the rule of law and allowed our courts to do their job.  This is a rock solid principle that the Democratic Party will continue to adhere to.  While we are proud of Virginia Woodward, we also must acknowledge the good work of her gifted attorney, Jennifer Moore.  Together they have done the right thing by standing up for our constitution and our laws.  Their actions have established a precedent that will endure long beyond the stench of this Republican mess in Frankfort.”
