Kentucky Republicans Stopped Legislation to Help Veterans!

If the troops knew this they would have been tempted to boo President Bush off the aircraft carrier. In Kentucky, the Republican leaders of the state Senate killed important legislation that passed the Democratic majority House. It was a pro-military bill.

The idea was so promising it was a top priority for m ilitary families and the veteran organizations that back them. From the American Legion to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, these organizations endorsed legislation passed by state Rep. Mike Weaver (D- Radcliff) who is now running for Congress in the U.S. 2nd District.

Unfortunately, Weaver’s House Bill 24 got one look by Republican leaders who buried it like a land mine. The legislation would have given bonus points to veterans seeking jobs in state government after they served their country. The veterans learned many skills like organization, leadership, and discipline while serving and wanted acknowledgement for such from state personnel.

If the voters ever knew that the Republicans turned their back on those who served their country in this manner they might just hold them accountable and declare the Republicans dishonorably discharged from their duties. Senators like Sen. Elizabeth Tori (R-Radcliff) would have to run to the hills if word ever got out.

This is not the first time. For the last two sessions Kentucky Republicans have killed the bills most important to military families. It's a shame more voters don't know it!
